Becoming an Election Board Official

Every four years (ex. 2013, 2017, etc.) voters elect a Judge of Election and a Majority and Minority Inspector for their voting division. These officials administer the elections in each of the 1,687 divisions throughout Philadelphia.

In order to appear on the ballot for one of the eligible Election Board positions you must file a nomination petition or paper with the Philadelphia County Board of Elections. A minimum of 10 signatures is required for a petition for Judge of Election and a minimum of 5 signatures is required for a petition for Inspector of Election. Candidates must be a citizen of the United States, at least 18 years of age, and a resident of the division in which they intend to run. For more information on how to run for office click here.

If there is a vacancy for one of the eligible positions in your division, you may seek a court appointment to fill the vacancy until the next election. For more information about this process, please review and download the appropriate Election Forms found here.
